What are eBooks?

eBooks are books that you can read on your computer, eReader, tablet or mobile phone. They contain the same stories and images as printed books, but because they are in digital format, eBooks are extremely portable and are instantly available to read once you have downloaded them.

An eReader is a portable reading device that allows you to store and read all of your favourite books in electronic format. There are lots of different eReaders on the market, including Sony Reader, Amazon Kindle, Barnes & Noble NOOK, and many more.

Getting started with eBooks

eBooks are available in various different formats. The industry standard and most common type of file is EPUB – this is how the Harry Potter eBooks are supplied. So, as long as your computer, mobile phone, tablet or eReader supports EPUB files – don't worry, most do – then you're ready to get started and buy eBooks from the Pottermore Shop.

The Pottermore Shop also supports the Amazon kindle formats if you wish to read your eBook on your Amazon Kindle.

Can I read eBooks on my device?

It's easy to download eBooks

Once you have bought an eBook from the Pottermore Shop, it will instantly appear in your personal 'My books' page. You can then download it directly to your computer straight away for transfer to an eReader, tablet or mobile phone, or you can choose to read your eBook via a compatible reading service.
