Founded in 1972 by Jaco Groot, De Harmonie is an independent Dutch publishing house, which specialises in prose, children's books, poetry, cartoons and graphic novels. Over the years, De Harmonie moved several times, but since 2008 they have been located at the Herengracht, in the centre of Amsterdam.

De Harmonie currently publishes between 30 and 40 new titles annually. Its authors for translated fiction include Ian McEwan, J.K. Rowling, Tom Sharpe, Colum McCann, Matthew Skelton, Kevin Wilson, Les Murray and David Leavitt. The first Harry Potter book was published in Dutch in August, 1998. Since then, close to 7 million Dutch Harry Potter books have been sold.
